Sarah Shaw formed Spacecraft, a design-led architecture and interior design practice based in Cambridge after working for a number of award-winning architectural practices in both Cambridge and London since 1997.
We specialise in high quality, design lead new build projects, extensions and refurbishment of predominately domestic projects, with experience of working in conservation areas, on listed buildings.
With our expertise lying in both interior design architecture, we consider how interiors work symbiotically with the architecture from inception to completion. This is unusual for a small domestic architectural practice, but we strongly believe that the approach of rigorously addressing the interiors to work seamlessly with the architecture from feasibility stage substantially improves the outcomes for quality and design delivery, which is where, as a practice we add most value to our clients.
Spacecraft is an Associate Member of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) with projects to date ranging in value from between 150k and £1m. Our aim is to provide bespoke design solutions to the highest design standards and have some fun along the way!

Sarah Shaw
Initially trained in graphics, Sarah graduated from the School of Architecture & Interior Design at the London Met in 1997. Sarah then worked as an architectural designer at various award winning practices in London – in the leisure sector for Fitch (UCI Cinemas); in social housing for Covent Garden Housing Project (CGHP) and in the commercial sector for Swanke Hayden & Connell Architects – working predominately on the new Lehman Brothers HQ in Canary Wharf but also on other award winning projects such as the Merrill Lynch Financial Centre in London and the Glaxo Smith Kline HQ in Brentford.
In 2001, Sarah moved to from Hackney to Cambridge, taking a career break to start a family. Sarah formed Mushroom Studio Ltd. in 2006; a multi-disciplinary design company near Cambridge, specialising in interior design and architecture but also offering furniture design & space planning. From 2019-2023 Sarah was co-director of a chartered architects practice.
